If your Laptop BIOS chip is soldered directly to the mainboard, then I would first attempt to program the part in position on the mainboard. This is not always possible and as a final measure in these cases the old chip will be removed, reprogrammed, and then finally refitted. In some cases the EEPROM is not serviceable and would be replaced.

If you have a Phoenix BIOS and have backed up your BIOS before flashing the new BIOS, then the old BIOS may be in one of the following directories. if you saved to a custom location then you should know where the backup is.
Windows 2000 and XP
C:\Windows\temp\Phlash16 directory, or
C:\documents and settings\your user name\local settings temp\.
Vista and windows 7
C:\Windows\temp\Phlash16 directory, or
C:\User\Your desktop name\Application Data\Local\Temp\
You can clear the directory prior to running the update file to make it easier to locate any files deposited there by the flash utility.
If the rom files are not available from the maker then this file can be used to restore the machine

ImagesHot air station used to lift one side of a TSOP part at a time, Scalpel or Tweezers or tool of choice is used only to lift the heated side of the EEPROM, when the solder melts the heat is removed. Once the solder solidifies you can then tackle the other side and pick up the EEPROM with a pair of good tweezers. Re flow the footprint pads after applying a little flux, and then reposition the EEPROM over the pads once it has been re programmed. Once you are happy with the alignment, hot air is then used to to re flow the EEPROM . Can be Tricky sometimes they move during the heating process and have to be re aligned. |
