Drive Erase Service

This service is available to local customers in the Vale of Glamorgan. The Hard Drive in your PC stores all your files, and you would think that a format would clear your data. This in most cases is acceptable. However with the right utility a format can be undone. If you have sensitive information that needs to be removed, then a drive would need to have a Low level Format performed to wipe every digit form the drive.

Sometimes a Format is not enough.

Drives have sectors that do not get wiped with the normal format option. Performing a format only, can present a security risk. Your files could be viewed by the next owner of any PC you dispose of. Wiping these sectors can sometimes recover a hard drive and make it useable again.

Sometimes hard drives do need to be completely wiped to restore normal operation. Virus and Spy ware infections can make this necessary. I do a complete wipe for a bad virus infection and normally the drive works as expected afterwards.

Performing a low level format ensures that every part of the drive including the boot sector is wiped. The drive is then prepared for use and refilled with totally irrelevant files. I then go on to delete everything, and prepare the drive for normal use.
Should the customer require it the drive can be deactivated and platters destroyed. I do consider this to be an extreme measure.

If for some reason I cannot access the drive or don't have the correct interface then disabling the drive is the only option as the platters could still be read with the right equipment.
If necessary we can dismantle the drives and return the platters to the owner, depends how seriously you take your security.
