Compaq CMOS Reference
Compaq/HP support is usually very good they sell very similar models. One or two codes may not be available but normally I have no trouble finding the vital Binary files for these machines. However there are issues with certain Compaq laptops.
Compaq BIOS Issues
Although Compaq/HP offer excellent support in most instance, there are issues with certain Compaq Machines. The Compaq NX9010 and possibly some other laptops in the Compaq range, do not always have the correct BIOS codes available at their web site. The codes available simply do not support every laptop marked as NX9010.
The issue involves different boards being used in the same laptop model. Compaq only have one BIOS available, the other is not even mentioned. A few customers have dead laptops as a result of trying to update the BIOS on this machine. The issue may affect laptops other than the Compaq NX9010 also.
The second bios for this machine was simply not available from the Compaq web site at the time of writing, and neither was the 2nd model type portrayed on their web pages.
Most other Compaq machines are unaffected by this issue. For a reputable maker such as this to present such a dilemma for its customers without any warning in their support section is not really acceptable.

Presario 1200 XL111 and 1200 XL121
The Presario 1200 XL111 and 1200 XL121 have an Atmel AT49F002T fitted as standard. These chips can be replaced with a Winbond W49F002UP12B PLCC chip as above, the footprint for the PLCC chip is on the other side of the mainboard under or near the modem.
The old TSOP chip would have to be removed. We can supply the PLCC 32 socket and a winbond W49F002UP12B chip as a replacement for the Atmel TSOP.
